Women in and around Kempton Park, particularly in Rhodesfield, are being urged to avoid walking or running alone after the bodies of five women were discovered in the area over a period of about two months.

SAPS say a fourth body was found on Saturday evening, with eNCA reporting on Monday morning that a fifth body was found.

According to preliminary information gathered by detectives, there are concerning similarities in the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The women were found partially clothed and with visible bruising, while the discovery sites are located within the same vicinity.

Police have stressed, however, that they have not confirmed that the deaths are linked or that a serial killer is responsible.

Despite this, SAPS says the similarities have prompted it to intensify its investigations and issue a public safety warning.

Women are being advised to avoid isolated and secluded areas, remain vigilant and, where possible, walk or exercise in groups rather than alone.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has directed the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner to establish a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate the cases and determine whether there are links between them.

The team will include detectives from specialised units, including the Murder and Robbery Unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit, along with other relevant disciplines.

Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo will lead the investigation and ensure all possible avenues are pursued.

SAPS is also appealing to residents, motorists, security personnel and other members of the community who may have witnessed suspicious activity in Rhodesfield and surrounding areas to come forward.
