Ravensmead police are investigating a case of murder after a private security guard allegedly opened fire on a group of boys in Uitsig on Friday afternoon, 11 September, fatally wounding a 13-year-old.
Three boys were reportedly playing at the premises of the old Holy Cross Home on De La Rey Road at about 16:30 when the incident happened.
The 13-year-old boy was shot in the back and died on the scene.
The 58-year-old security guard was arrested and will appear in court on Monday, 14 September 2026.
The Ravensmead Community Policing Forum has expressed deep shock and sadness.
“The CPF extends its deepest condolences to the child’s family, friends and the wider Uitsig community during this devastating time. The loss of a young life is always tragic, but the death of a 13-year-old child in circumstances such as these is particularly distressing and raises serious concerns within our community.”
The CPF has called for a thorough investigation, while appealing to community members not to speculate, spread unverified information or take the law into their own hands.
“We understand the anger, pain and frustration that this incident may evoke, but we urge everyone to remain calm and allow the investigation to take its course.”
