A combined consignment of drugs worth an estimated R3.5 million has been seized in two separate drug raids in Khayelitsha this week, with two suspects arrested in the area as police intensify their crackdown on drug networks.

SAPS says drugs worth R2 million were confiscated during an early-morning operation at Thaleni Square on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.

“A tactical operation carried out by the Anti Economic Crime Task Team in collaboration with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Policing Team yielded positive outcomes after the members found a consignment of drugs. The members received intelligence around 05:30 about suspected drug activities happening at the aforesaid address. Without further ado, they followed up on that resulting in the discovery of nine packets of mandrax tablets, each containing 1000 tablets, including 300 loose mandrax tablets.”

Police say further investigation led to the discovery of 12 sachets of crystal meth and 4.15 grams of rock cocaine at the premises.

A 37-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges of possession and dealing in drugs.

The raid comes just days after another major drug bust in Mandela Park, Khayelitsha.

Police arrested a 57-year-old woman during an intelligence-driven operation at a property in Raymond Mhlaba Crescent in the early hours of Monday, 24 August.

“During the search, police recovered drugs worth R1.5 million.”

SAPS says the haul included 7 777 mandrax tablets and 1.6 kilograms of crystal meth.

Both Khayelitsha suspects are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.

Meanwhile, police also seized drugs worth an estimated R20 000 in Kleinvlei, Eerste River, on Tuesday, 25 August.

SAPS says members acted on intelligence and searched a house in Spandau Road, where they found a 38-year-old man and seized 340 mandrax tablets.

“The teams acted on intelligence and conducted a search at a house in Spandau Road where they found a 38-year-old male suspect. A total of 340 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R20 000 were confiscated.”

The suspect was arrested for possession of drugs and is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court once charged.

SAPS says it will continue to target drug networks and disrupt the supply of illegal drugs in communities.
