An early-morning drug bust has led to the arrest of a 57-year-old woman and the confiscation of drugs worth R1.5 million in Khayelitsha.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) says the operation on Monday, 24 August 2026, forms part of ongoing efforts to rid communities of drugs.

Spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala says a search of a house in Raymond Mhlaba Crescent led to the discovery of the drugs.

“Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team, together with the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, confiscated 7,777 Mandrax tablets and 1.6 kilograms of crystal meth in Mandela Park. They found a 57-year-old female suspect and, during the search, police recovered drugs worth R1.5 million.”

Gwala says the suspect will face a charge of drug dealing and is set to appear before the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once she has been formally charged.
