A 54-year-old father from Plattekloof has sadly passed away while surfing with his 23-year-old son at Bloubergstrand.
NSRI Melkbosstrand responded to eyewitness reports of a surfer in distress at around 10h20 on Saturday, 15 August.
According to the son, his father was busy surfing when he collapsed in the surf. The son used his surfboard to help his unresponsive father return to the shoreline.
A bystander used an NSRI pink rescue buoy to assist.
Multiple other rescue agencies also arrived at the scene. A bystander was already performing CPR on the man when paramedics took over.
He was sadly declared deceased, and police have opened an inquest docket. The NSRI has extended its condolences to the man’s family.
