Police say the accident occurred on Dassenberg Road in Avondale at about 18:30 on Wednesday. The boy was declared dead at the scene.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
“Circumstances surrounding this accident are under investigation,” said Captain F.C. Van Wyk of the Western Cape SAPS.
The local ward councillor, Allister Lightburn, confirmed to SmileFM that the young boy was a Grade 3 learner at Saxonsea Primary School. Lightburn shared his condolences with the affected family and urged those caring for young children to always be aware of their children’s whereabouts.
“I want to urge our caregivers and parents to really take care of the whereabouts of our children, and my heart is sore at the thought of a life that had so much living still to do being cut short. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, and I pray that God will strengthen them during their time of bereavement,” said Lightburn.
