The South African Police Service (SAPS) is appealing for any information that could assist them as they investigate a shooting incident that claimed the life of a 36-year-old man and left two others wounded in Hanover Park on Thursday.

Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk has dismissed prior reports that five people were shot, confirming that only three people were shot in the suspected gang-related shooting.

“Philippi SAPS members attended to a shooting incident at Blossom Street, Newfields Village. Upon members arrival they found the body of a 36-year-old male who sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. Two other victims aged 21 and 30 were also shot and injured and were transported to a nearby medical facility with private transport for treatment. The 21-year-old sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his stomach and head, and the 30-year-old was shot in his left leg and arm.”

A case of murder and two cases of attempted murder are currently under investigation.

Van Wyk encouraged anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information that could be used to track down the suspects involved in the fatal shooting to contact SAPS immediately.

“Anyone with information that might help the police with the investigation is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS App to report anonymously.”
