The Steenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) is appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could assist the South African Police Service (SAPS) as it investigates a shooting incident that left one person dead and three others, including a three-year-old child, wounded on Wednesday.
Steenberg police are investigating a murder and three attempted murder cases following an alleged targeted attack on people attending a memorial service in Beethoven Street, Cafda, Retreat.
A 24-year-old man was fatally wounded, while three other victims aged three, 18 and 40 sustained gunshot wounds.
“As they were packing up, preparing to leave, a white Mercedes-Benz AMG with a black roof drove by and stopped. Five suspects emerged from the vehicle and directed fire at the attendees. The motive for the shooting is a subject of police investigation, and no arrest has been made at this stage,” SAPS said.
CPF Chairperson Nicola Small strongly condemned the shooting and urged anyone with information to assist SAPS in tracking down those responsible.
“The CPF is aware of a shooting incident that took place last night in Cafda that claimed the life of one person. Unfortunately, a three-year-old child was also injured. We condemn the senseless violence plaguing our community and encourage anyone with information to please come forward. They can contact Crime Stop or Steenberg SAPS to assist the investigation.”
