A client at a barbershop in Delft and a security guard in Khayelitsha have been shot and killed within 24 hours of each other.
The most recent incident occurred in Town Two on Wednesday morning. Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain F.C. Van Wyk said the 34-year-old security guard is said to have been dropping off colleagues in the area.
The guard was reportedly shot shortly after dropping off the last passenger along Spine Road, near the Town Two braai stands, said Van Wyk.
Van Wyk noted that when members of the Makhaza police arrived on the scene, they found the victim on his back, covered with a sheet.
“Ambulance personnel were already on the scene who declared him as deceased. The deceased was shot multiple times,” said Van Wyk.
The motive for this attack is believed to be a robbery, with Van Wyk noting that there were four 9mm firearms, belonging to the security company the victim worked for, inside the vehicle – and all of them were stolen.
As police investigate the circumstances of this murder, another probe is underway into a fatal shooting at a barbershop on the corner of Mango and Holst in Delft South.
Regarding the latter incident, Van Wyk advised that an unknown man is said to have entered the establishment on Tuesday afternoon and fired several shots at a 38-year-old man, who was a client there.
“Preliminary investigations indicates that the deceased was busy cutting his hair when an unidentified male entered the barber shop and shot the deceased multiple times,” said Van Wyk.
In the process, a 12-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man were also shot, both having sustained wounds to their leg.
The adult male victim was the deceased’s barber.
“The motive for this attack forms part of police investigations,” said Van Wyk in connection with the Delft incident.
