Long gone are the days when you couldn’t just watch your favourite show at any time. Before streaming we had to turn on the TV at a very specific time and day. It’s those shows that we’ll always remember fondly…but when thinking of a reboot – is it always a good idea?
5 classic shows that got a reboot
Dallas — Rebooted in 2012
One of the biggest TV dramas of the 1980s, Dallas returned in 2012 with a new generation of Ewings while bringing back much of the original cast. The reboot kept the oil-money power struggles and family betrayals that made the original famous.
The A-Team — Rebooted in 2010 (film)
Known for explosions, disguises, and the line “I love it when a plan comes together,” The A-Team got a modern big-screen reboot in 2010. The movie kept the wild action and team chemistry while upgrading the scale.
Knight Rider — Rebooted in 2008
The iconic crime-fighting duo of Michael Knight and his AI car KITT returned in 2008 with a new cast and upgraded tech. While the reboot modernised the look, fans still loved seeing that classic red scanner light again.
MacGyver — Rebooted in 2016
The ultimate “fix-it-with-anything” hero came back in 2016 with a younger, faster-paced reboot. The new version kept the core idea alive — solving impossible problems using brains instead of brute force.
Magnum, P.I. — Rebooted in 2018
The laid-back Hawaiian private investigator returned in 2018 with a fresh cast but the same tropical crime-solving energy. Fast cars, island scenery, and easy confidence stayed central to the reboot.
