A 33-year-old tourist was rescued on Platteklip Gorge on Sunday, on her first day in the Mother City, after she slipped and fell while descending the popular hiking trail.

The fall resulted in multiple injuries, which left her in significant pain and unable to continue.

Thankfully, passing hikers quickly called the emergency Wilderness Search and Rescue number – 021 937 0300, prompting a carefully coordinated response.

It again highlights the importance for all hikers to have this number stored before they set off on their hikes.

The visitor was treated on scene by a Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS paramedic before being flown by helicopter to a nearby landing zone, where she was transferred to an awaiting ambulance and transported to the hospital.
