Pet lovers in Lavender Hill are urged to take part in a mass animal sterilisation drive offered by the Cape of Good Hope Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Paws-A-While, and Aid 4 Animals in Distress.

The two day drive, starting today, will be hosted at the Levana Primary School, and aims to sterilise 100 animals, addressing the critical issue of pet overpopulation in the area.

The initiative also seeks to reduce the number of stray animals roaming the area, and to encourage responsible pet ownership among local residents.

The campaign runs from 9am to 3pm on both days, allowing pet owners time to bring in their animals for sterilisation.

Belinda Abraham, a spokesperson for the SPCA says the collaborative effort is a significant step towards creating a healthier, safer environment for both animals and residents.

“This is a practical response to a huge challenge faced not only by communities but also the animal welfare sector. We are providing a simple way for families to safeguard their pets’ well-being while contributing to healthier and safer environments for everyone. The campaign also strengthens community safety and protects animals from preventable illnesses.”

She adds that there are plans to extend the campaign to other areas in the future.
