The Cape Flats Safety Forum (CFSF) says the South African Police Service (SAPS) is showing stronger, more proactive efforts to curb drugs and illicit goods across the Cape Flats.
This follows an early-morning operation today in Mitchells Plain, where members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, working under Operation Shanela II, executed a targeted raid aimed at shutting down criminal activity in the area.
Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk says officers acted on reliable intelligence that drugs were being stored at a property in Rondevlei.
“A search of the property and the occupant, a 45 year old male, led to the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs, including 242 mandrax tablets, 719 mandrax capsules and two sachets of tik. Authorities also confiscated R10,970 believed to be the proceeds of crime.”
The suspect was arrested on charges of possession and dealing in drugs and is currently detained at Lentegeur SAPS.
CFSF Chairperson, Abie Isaacs, welcomed the arrest and applauded police for their swift action.
“We welcome the swift reaction from SAPS. This is what we call proactive steps to rid the streets of drugs. Well done to all agencies involved.”
