Residents, businesses, and stakeholders have until Sunday to provide input on Cape Town’s proposed Mobility and Access Plan for the Central Business District (CBD).
The draft plan seeks to create a more efficient, safe, and inclusive transport network in the city centre.
The plan proposes a multi-modal approach, combining different forms of transport to improve the CBD’s functionality and support economic growth.
Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, says the vision is for a well-connected, safe, and secure movement network that caters to all residents, workers, and visitors.
“The proposal aims to pilot the success of liveable, vibrant productive cities worldwide, which has maximise the safe access to streets space where businesses and pedestrians flourish in traffic calm zones, and where social, cultural and commercial ventures blend into a lifestyle which offers people centred public spaces. Given the population growth projections, the draft CBD Mobility and Access Plan seeks to optimise existing transport infrastructure”.
The City is encouraging everyone with an interest in the CBD to review the plan and share their feedback before the deadline to help shape the future of Cape Town’s urban mobility.
