The Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit is working round the clock to tackle gang violence and keep communities safe.

A 36-year-old man is due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court after being arrested in Retreat on Tuesday for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala says intelligence led members to an address in Xak’abantu, Vrygrond, where they arrested a 23-year-old man and seized 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

A 21-year-old suspect was also arrested in Drury Road, Vrygrond for possession of mandrax tablets.

In Kensington, two suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court for illegal possession of ammunition.

“A 21-year-old gang-affiliated suspect was found with a black 9mm pistol and four rounds, and a 43-year-old suspect from another gang had 100 rounds of ammunition.”

A 35-year-old suspect is facing murder and attempted murder charges in Kensington and will appear in court soon.

Meanwhile in Delft, a 42-year-old suspect was arrested for drug dealing.

“During routine patrols, members confiscated 151 small sachets of tik and a bag of unprocessed tik crystals.”

Gwala says it will continue intelligence-led operations to combat gang violence and protect communities across the Cape Flats.
