The fire in Kogmanskloof above Ashton and Montagu is still burning. Cape Winelands District Municipality firefighters, together with its partner CapeNature, say the fire is burning in a broken line across the mountaintops and occasionally flaring up in more accessible areas. They will continue active firefighting operations for the next 24 hours.

The municipality’s Jo-Anne Otto says there is currently no need for property protection, but if it were, their crews would be deployed from their Worcester and Ceres stations. Otto says crews are being assisted by the Winelands FBA to ensure consistent communication with landowners.

She concluded, “A warm day with light winds is forecast.”
She says although it is still cool on the mountaintops, temperatures will rise throughout the day. This could make for difficult firefighting conditions. She added that CapeNature crews will deploy additional resources today and tomorrow to restore fire lanes in the area.
