Bishop Lavis police are investigating an alleged gang-related shooting near the Bishop Lavis Day Hospital that left a 35-year-old man wounded on Monday afternoon.
According to police reports, the victim was walking along the road when several gunshots rang out. The victim then realised he had been shot and ran to the nearby day hospital for medical treatment.
Police Seargant Wesley Twigg says the man sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulder and was treated by medical staff.
Twigg says the incident occurred around 14:00 at the corner of Lavis Drive and Leak Road in Bishop Lavis and police have confirmed that the motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related.
No arrests have yet been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Bishop Lavis detectives are investigating a case of attempted murder.
Meanwhile, the Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Forum’s Chairperson, Graham Lindhorst, says a similar incident occured down the same road, Bishop Lavis Drive, on Sunday afternoon.
Lindhorst says two people were shot and injured in a drive by shooting aimed at a taxi.
Authorities have appealed to the public to assist with any information that could help trace the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting incident.
