Another robbery has struck the tourist town of Franschhoek, as guests at an accommodation were robbed of their belongings over the weekend.

Police confirmed that a case of house robbery was opened after suspects burgled a guest house along Uitkyk Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“Unknown suspects entered the premises and robbed the victims of electronic equipment and jewellery before fleeing the scene,” said Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.

This marks the third such incident in recent months.

A similar incident occurred in August, when two people were assaulted and robbed at a guest house in the same street.

In that incident, police said “both of the victims aged 60 were assaulted by three unknown assailants whose faces were covered”. The victims were taken to hospital for treatment.

In June, four tourists were also robbed during their stay along Dirkie Uys Street, just a few blocks away.

At the time, Twigg confirmed that “three unknown suspects entered the premises and robbed the victims of personal belongings before fleeing the scene”.

Despite the growing number of robberies in the area, no arrests have been made. Police said investigations into all three incidents are ongoing.

Authorities have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

“Anyone with any information about this incident can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously,” said Twigg.
