Western Cape Police have made a significant drug seizure, which they say has disrupted the flow of illicit narcotics into Cape Town, after officers intercepted a truck transporting large quantities of tik and cocaine along the N1 on Tuesday evening, 30 September.

At around 19:00, members of the Paarl Highway Patrol, Boland K9 Unit, and Provincial Traffic stopped and searched the vehicle near the Huguenot Tunnel, acting on intelligence-driven information.

Inside, officers discovered 55.8 kilograms of tik with an estimated street value of R16.3 million, along with 30.5 kilograms of cocaine worth nearly R3.9 million.

A 44-year-old Nigerian national was arrested on drug-related charges and is expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrates Court soon.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, commended the officers involved, saying the operation not only removed millions of rands’ worth of drugs from circulation but also safeguarded communities from the scourge of substance abuse.
