Body found at Sunset Beach, Sea Point, in suspected drowning

Published on

The body of a 29-year-old man was found at Sunset Beach in Sea Point this morning, as police investigate a possible drowning.

Sea Point SAPS received a call, and on arrival on the scene, police officers and Law Enforcement members saw the body and requested the help of the Western Cape Provincial Water Policing and Diving Services, who retrieved the body.

While it is a suspected drowning, a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Ward Councillor Nicola Jowell also confirmed the incident.

“He has been identified and his family informed. At this point, it is believed that he most likely drowned, but that would still need to be confirmed. It is very sad to have yet another incident like this on the beaches in our part of the city. My condolences to his family and friends in their time of need.”

This is the third body found near the Sea Point beachfront in less than a month, and the second drowning.

On Sunday, 31 August, the body of the unidentified man was found along Broken Bath Beach. He is also suspected of having drowned.

On Sunday, 24 August, a man in his forties was found dead along the promenade with a gunshot wound. It is suspected that the man took his own life.
