Three more murders have rocked Kraaifontein, bringing the number of killings in the area to nine since Tuesday night.

It comes after the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola visited the Kraaifontein police station on Wednesday afternoon to visit the crime scenes of the three double murders that occurred in the suburb.

During a briefing at the police station, Masemola announced that a man had been arrested and is, for now, being linked to one of the double murders in Wallacedene, where two women were gunned down.

Two other women were also murdered, a mere ten minutes afterwards, and a few streets apart. These two double murders are possibly linked.

Then on Wednesday night at around 22:00, police responded to the scene of a brutal vigilante-style murder in Laboheme Street, Wallacedene, in which three men in their thirties were killed and set alight.

Their charred bodies were found on the scene.

While detectives are pursuing all leads, information at hand suggests that community members accused the victims of criminal activity.

The nature of their alleged crimes has not been disclosed.

The office of the Provincial Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile has condemned the extra-judicial killings.

“Instead of allowing the law to take its course, they were violently attacked. The South African Police Service condemns vigilantism in the strongest possible terms. Taking the law into one’s own hands is a criminal offence, and those who participate in such acts will be prosecuted.”

Police have urged anyone with information about the murders to come forward.
