South African star and “water” hitmaker, Tyla, has claimed her second consecutive MTV Video Music Award on Sunday night, winning Best Afrobeats for her hit single “Push 2 Start.”
The 22-year-old singer, who made history last year when her global hit song “Water” earned the first VMA in the category, returned to the stage to accept the award once again.
In her speech, Tyla thanked her supporters across Africa and her team, saying the win was “a blessing” given the strong competition in the field.
Tyla also teased fans with news of new music, confirming that a follow-up to her debut album is on the way.
“It’s coming, and it’s coming in hot,” she told the audience
On the red carpet, the Johannesburg-born performer reworked a 1993 Chanel shirt, once worn by Claudia Schiffer, into a micro-minidress trimmed with black and gold chain detail.

The outfit was paired with layered Pandora jewellery, reflecting her role as an ambassador for the brand, while sleek styling—a sharp bob, understated smoky eye, green-tipped manicure, and classic Louboutin heels—completed the ensemble.
The win cements Tyla’s position as one of Africa’s most prominent breakout stars on the global stage.
