South African music sensation Tyla has been announced as the host of the 2025 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. As with many of her previous achievements, she is the first South African to do so.

The event is set to take place on 21 June at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The Grammy Award-winning artist will bring her signature energy and style to the globally watched event.

Tyla is also in the running for two major awards on the night: Favourite Global Music Star and Favourite Music Collaboration for her feature on WizTheMc and bees & honey’s track Show Me Love.

This marks her second consecutive year being nominated at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. In 2024, she received nods for Favourite Global Music Star, Favourite Breakout Artist, and Favourite Viral Song.

But Tyla isn’t the only South African to make waves at the Kids’ Choice Awards. Kairo Forbes, daughter of DJ Zinhle and the late Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, won in the Favourite African Kidfluencer category last year.

The ceremony, famous for its iconic orange blimp-shaped trophies, celebrates excellence across film, television, music, and sports.

Leading this year’s nominations are global superstars Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar, each with four nominations. Close behind are Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Selena Gomez and Jelly Roll, each scoring three nods. A host of first-time nominees, including Florence Pugh, Doechii, and Shohei Ohtani, will also be vying for an award.

This year’s event promises an electrifying lineup of entertainment, featuring skateboarding displays, dance acts, and musical performances, with the full artist roster to be revealed in the coming weeks.
