Due to the rainy weather over the weekend, the construction of the temporary traffic circle at the Govan Mbeki and Duinefontein Roads intersection has been postponed to 30 August 2025.
The traffic circle was originally scheduled to be installed on 23 August, with the busy intersection to be converted into a temporary single-lane traffic circle.
Those changes will now come into effect for motorists on Sunday, 31 August 2025, if the weather permits.
The City confirmed that the switch is part of the ongoing MyCiTi Phase 2A construction project.

The existing intersection will close from 14:00 on Saturday until 06:00 the next day to allow the work on the circle to be completed. The temporary traffic circle is expected to remain in place for the next year.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, warned of lane closures and delays during the changeover. But advised that detour signage, advance warnings and safety signs will be erected, with law enforcement and traffic officers on site to assist motorists.
Drivers are urged to plan ahead, expect delays, and consider alternative routes.
“Once this temporary traffic circle is in place, I ask that road users please approach it with caution as we allow time for drivers to familiarise themselves with it,” said Quintas.
Quintas noted that the expansion will connect communities in Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and the Metro-South East with Wynberg and Claremont.
“The roadworks form part of the roll-out of the second phase of the MyCiTi bus service.”
He further called on motorists to exercise patience during the transition.
“Always keep in mind the safe, affordable and reliable MyCiTi bus service that is coming their way, the public transport option they have been waiting for to keep Captonians moving,” Quintas added.
