The City of Cape Town is reminding all municipal account holders to switch to emailed billing before the looming 31 December 2025 deadline, as it phases out the use of the South African Postal Service for sending accounts.

Residents are urged to email or SMS their account number along with their email address to the City to ensure a smooth transition to eBilling.

Those whose contact details are already on the system but are not yet signed up for emailed accounts may soon receive an SMS prompting them to switch.

“We are on a mission to reduce the number of accounts, both residential and commercial, which are printed and sent via the South African Postal Service,” said Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi

Mbandezi added that the process is quick and easy, and ensures greater convenience as bills arrive directly in your inbox.

The City added that residents with no email access will still receive their account. They, or a loved one, are advised to contact the City’s Call Centre so we can assist them.

So far, over 475,000 residents have already made the switch. The City says eBilling is not only more convenient but also supports financial and environmental sustainability.

However, from 1 January 2026, the City will cease sending printed bills via the South African Postal Service.
