Cape Town has been rocked by a fourth triple murder in July alone, as violent crime continues to escalate across the metro.
In the most recent attack, two men and a woman were gunned down in the early hours of Saturday morning in Philippi East. A fourth victim, a 26-year-old woman, was wounded and is recovering in the hospital.
“Two men, aged 19 and 20, as well as a 20-year-old woman, were declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. A fourth victim, a 26-year-old woman, sustained gunshot wounds to her arms and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined, and the suspects remain at large,” said Colonel Andrè Traut, Western Cape police spokesperson.

According to police reports, two suspects claiming to be police officers entered a home on Hankomo Street in Lower Crossroads around 02:00 on 26 July.
Once inside, they “claimed to be looking for something” before opening fire on the occupants. The suspects fled the scene. The motive for the killings is unknown.
This marks the fourth multiple murder case in less than a month, with previous incidents occurring in Mfuleni, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha and Bishop Lavis.
On 17 July, police were called to Ntlazane Road in Harare, in Khayelitsha, where “the bodies of the three victims were discovered with multiple gunshot wounds”.
Just a day earlier in Gugulethu, three men were shot dead and two others injured during a late-night attack by four armed suspects.
On 11 July in Bishop Lavis, four people were killed when two men stormed a house and opened fire. Two suspects were later arrested. This case is under investigation by the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit.
On 5 July, another triple murder was reported in Mfuleni, where three men were found shot inside a shack in the Covid informal settlement.
The Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit is leading multiple investigations, but in most cases, “the motive for the attack is yet to be determined”.
