Newborn baby girl found dead in a bin in Khayelitsha

Police detectives in Lingelethu West in Khayelitsha made a grim discovery this morning when they discovered the lifeless remains of a newborn body girl inside a bin in iLitha Park.

 

 

Authorities were called out to Mthawelanga Street. Sadly it was already too late, as the infant was declared deceased. The Police’s Anelisiwe Manyana confirmed that officers found the remains at around 10:30 on Thursday morning.

 

 

“Lingelethu West police opened an inquest docket for further investigation following the discovery of the body of a baby on Thursday 22 May 2025 in Mthawelanga Street, Ilitha Park. According to reports police members attended to a complaint and upon arrival at the crime scene they found the body of a baby inside a bin. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” Manyana said.

 

 

No arrests have been executed at this stage. Anyone who may have information is prompted to alert the authorities by contacting their nearest SAPS or Crimestop on 08600 10111.
