WATCH: Brake failure leads to dramatic crash on Glencairn beach

Published on

A black Corsa Sport landed on Glencairn beach in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 13 May, after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure.

According to the Western Cape SAPS, the vehicle went through a traffic light before flying off the road, crashing over the barrier to the railway line, and flipping on its roof before landing on the sand.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 am and was attended to by members of the Simon’s Town SAPS.

Miraculously, the motorist only sustained a broken leg. He had not been drinking, and no police charges have been laid.

Footage of the dramatic incident has been shared widely on social media.

The vehicle was towed away later that morning.

Shane Meyer, from Shane’s Towing Western Cape, was called out to do the job.

He thanked everyone who assisted, including the Speaker of the City of Cape Town Council Felicity Purchase who provided a scaffold plank to ensure the beach walk-way was not damaged when the vehicle was recovered.
