A suspect in a human trafficking case in Cape Town has been arrested in Durban. The suspect will appear in court this morning. The 38-year-old is sought in connection with a case opened in September last year (2024) in Plumstead.

A human trafficking suspect has been nabbed

Members of the Directorate for Priority Crime in the Western Cape, supported by officials from the Home Affairs Department visited an address in Plumstead last year. They found 12 people on the premises. It was later established that 5 of the females had worked as sex workers. Officers also managed to identify the manager of the brothel.

Human trafficking suspect to appear in a Durban Court

 

The spokesperson for the Western Cape Hawks, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, says members of a multidisciplinary team comprising the Hawks based in George and Durban, together with the Durban Metro Police K9 Unit, carried out the arrest yesterday in the coastal city. The 38-year-old woman faces charges in connection with trafficking in persons.

Durban Magistrates Court

 

Lieutenant Colonel Vukubi says the suspect will make her first appearance in transit in the Durban Magistrates Court on 25 March 2025. She will then be transferred to Cape Town, after this court appearance. The other person arrested in connection with that human trafficking case last year in Plumstead is Rogers Mubiru, who has already appeared in court. His case was postponed to 17 April 2025. He will then make a formal bail application.
