Hawks open treason dockets over expropriation ‘misinformation’

Published on

The Hawks have confirmed that four dockets of high treason are on investigators’ desks. They are probing whether certain individuals or groups are guilty of spreading misinformation about the Expropriation Act.

The MK Party and other parties or individuals are said to have registered the complaints following allegations that US President Donald Trump was misled about the land issue.

It is believed this misinformation led to Trump introducing sanctions against the country, including cutting aid, and offering refugee status to Afrikaners.

Hawks boss General Godfrey Lebeya, speaking during an event aimed at tackling transnational organized crime, didn’t name the accused in the High Treason cases.

Still, it is believed to be Afriforum and Solidarity, who recently embarked on another trip to Washington to meet with lawmakers about the plight of the Afrikaner. They have found many sympathetic ears.

Lebeya says the priority crimes unit will not hesitate to arrest anyone should the prosecutorial authority find High Treason was committed.

“Indeed, we are apolitical when it comes to the complaint. We don’t discriminate whether they belong to a political party or not. There are four dockets opened by different people, maybe different political parties, that concern some individuals who may have crossed the border and communicated some things that may seem to be in the direction of high treason. I don’t want to mention the names of organisations, but as you say, there are some organisations that are suspected of actually advocating for high treason. We are still at the initial stage of the investigation of those crimes, but we need to be careful how we collect that evidence.”

Lebeya added if sufficient evidence exists, arrests could follow.

“When the time comes after the investigation, the NPA will determine whether what they have collected is sufficient for anyone to be secured before court.”

Meanwhile, AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel has dismissed the treason charges brought against it.

Speaking from the United States, Kriel said he is unbothered by the investigation and that AfriForum is prepared to cooperate with the Hawks.

“There are simply no legal grounds for the charges, but should the state decide to continue with their actions against AfriForum, it will strengthen our position as it will show that there are indeed ANC leaders who abuse their power to govern against certain sections of the population.”
