Three brazen criminals, posing as City of Cape Town officials, have been arrested after robbing a Camps Bay resident of various items, including a laptop, wallet and cell phone.

The three suspects flashed fake credentials and were let into the home on Saturday, 22 February, after which they stole the items and left.

The suspects then tried the same scam in Walmer Estate later that same day. But law enforcement officers were informed of this suspicious activity by members of a community group and immediately sprung into action.

They traced the suspects and apprehended them. The suspects were taken to Camps Bay where they were detained. A case of robbery is being investigated.

The vehicle used in their crimes was also confiscated and impounded at SAPS Bellville. The City says upon further investigation it was found that the suspects are linked to other incidents in Kuils River, Manenberg and Walmer Estate.

Law enforcement officers notched up dozens of other successes over the past week, including 239 arrests in total.

The City’s Traffic Service issued 58 883 notices, impounded 319 public transport vehicles and executed 1 091 warrants of arrest. They also made 39 arrests, of which 16 were for driving under the influence, nine for reckless and negligent driving and 14 for other transgressions, such as a stolen vehicle, submitting false documentation, and assaulting an officer.

The Metro Police Department made 87 arrests, including 29 for drunk driving and 37 for the illegal possession of drugs.
