At the same time, their counterparts in the Cape Winelands District are also monitoring for flare-ups and have started with mopping up operations, at some sites. There are however still active fire lines in Doolhof, Wellington as well as in Witzenberg.

Aerial resources were activated

The Spokesperson for the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s (CWDM) Fire Services’ Jo-Anne Otto says their teams had their hands full last night when a flare-up on Doolhof threatened property. She says fire and ground crews were able to prevent any damages and that the fire has been contained.

Also, farmers in the area activated aerial resources on Sunday afternoon, which were administered via the Winelands Fire Protection Association.

Otto has added She says that all fires in the Wellington area have been brought under control. The ground is still very hot in places, which makes monitoring and mopping up a top priority for Monday. At the same time, various lines continue to smoulder and flare up in some of the very high, inaccessible areas in Witzenberg. There are still several lines there burning actively.
