Short on the heels of announcing the expansion of the MyCiTi bus service to Claremont, the City of Cape Town has said it will now commence with MyCiTi infrastructure construction in Khayelitsha.

The next phase of the MyCiTi expansion will link commuters from Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain with Wynberg and Claremont.

Residents and road users in Khayelitsha have been asked to note that construction is coming their way in March 2025.

The work will include road upgrades, road widening and intersection upgrades for improved traffic flow along Govan Mbeki Road (M9) and Japhta K Masemola Road.

The extent of the construction activities for this phase will be along Japhta K Masemola Road, from the R300 bridge in the west to just east of the Mew Way intersection.

Residents have been invited to attend public information days this week, where detailed information will be provided.

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, has asked residents to share the details of the meetings with neighbours so that everyone can be informed properly of what lies ahead.

‘We thank everyone in advance for their cooperation and patience and can assure you that the short-term inconvenience and wait will be absolutely worth it in the end once commuters are able to get onto the MyCiTi buses. The roll-out of the service to these communities compliments our efforts to keep Cape Town moving.’
