It is the 13th anniversary of Table Mountain being declared one of the New7Wonders of Nature, and Cape Town residents and visitors are invited to celebrate by protecting and conserving it.
This is ahead of the annual “Take A Hike” day on Saturday, aimed at combining scenic routes with an environmental focus. While official registration for the event is closed, the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) have encouraged hikers to enjoy the mountain in their own time this weekend and help preserve its beauty with a “leave it better than we found it” approach.
“We’re excited to celebrate ‘Take a Hike Day’ with our community, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy these beautiful trails while actively protecting the environment,” said TMACC’s Executive Director, Selma Hercules.
Although Earthshot Week has ended, Hercules hopes to keep conservation front of mind for all who walk the mountain’s paths.

Participants registered for Saturday’s event will gather at 07:00 at the Platteklip Gorge Trail, receiving water and waste bags to support their clean-up efforts. As they hike, they’ll collect litter, contributing to TMACC’s mission of conservation.
“We believe in doing the right thing for our planet, and this event embodies our commitment to conservation. It’s a simple yet impactful way to safeguard this remarkable natural wonder, one step at a time.”
Upon reaching the summit’s Twelve Apostles Terrace, hikers can dispose of collected litter in bins and will receive a complimentary cable car ride down, along with a snack pack as a thank-you for their contributions.
