The Western Cape MEC of Finance, Deidré Baartman, announced last week that all 14 Western Cape Government (WCG) departments and its 11 entities have achieved unqualified audits for the 2023/24 financial year.

This is the second consecutive year that all the WCG’s departments and entities have achieved these outstanding outcomes.

“The audit outcomes are a testament to the WCG’s commitment to financial discipline and good governance. This is because we know that service delivery to our residents depends on ensuring that every cent is spent diligently and responsibly.”

 

Premier Alan Winde has thanked all government officials who are committed to spending taxpayers’ money responsibly.

“As a resident obsessed government our commitment towards good governance is non-negotiable. If we build and maintain fiscal discipline across our departments and entities, we ensure that every cent is spent in the best interest of residents. I urge our WCG family to keep working as meticulously as they have to maintain our proud track record of good governance.”

 

Baartman says these audit outcomes are crucial, as the Western Cape positions itself as a reliable partner that fosters confidence for future investment. She says dependence on traditional government funding is no longer a guarantee to ensuring sustainable growth.

“Diversifying the WCG’s revenue streams through attracting international investment, international partnerships, and private sector participation will be vital for the province’s long-term fiscal resilience. This is why good audit outcomes matter – because strong financial governance attracts investment.”

Baartman says these audit results have again demonstrated the culture of responsible and transparent financial management within the Western Cape government administration.
