Former EFF Deputy leader Floyd Shivambu has clinched the title of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party’s national organizer.

This was announced in a briefing held in Cape Town on Thursday, where the party updated the public on its leadership structure and the current political landscape.

Shivambu shocked the nation and the red berets last week when he exited from the EFF. The controversial move is deemed a major blow to the party when he tendered his resignation. The MK party’s Secretary-General Sifiso Maseko informed the public on what Shivambu’s position in the party is:

“I’m sure all of you can guess who is the national organiser. The national organiser is one and only Floyd Shivambu,” said Maseko.

The news was welcomed with applause.

His duties will include; organising, developing the party’s organisational documents and guidelines, political education, policy and research.

“What President Zuma is doing with the uMkhonto weSizwe Party is what the statement of uMkhonto weSizwe did in 1961, on the 16th of December to say that now that the liberation movement has been burned, what other platform do we use to express ourselves? What other instrument do we use to fight for total liberation,” said Shivambu.

Furthermore, Zuma will remain the party’s president with John Hlophe as his deputy. An enthusiastic Zuma spoke fondly of Shivambu:

“There are politicians and politicians. This comrade I have known since he was very young, in the ANC Youth League. That was when I picked up that he is a real politician,” said Zuma.
