‘Marius van der Westhuizen must rot in prison,’ says Action Society

Ex-cop turned convict Marius van der Westhuizen is a child killer and should remain behind bars for life.

That is what the civil rights organisation Action Society’s Kaylynn Palm had to say following the Department of Correctional Service’s decision to review the parole board’s report regarding van der Westhuizen’s parole.

Last month, it was reported that van der Westhuizen would be out on parole on 31 July 2024, after serving a mere 13 years of his 24-year sentence for the brutal murder of his three children.

The former police commander of the Claremont Police Station killed his three children in cold blood back in July 2006.

“We have said before that 13 years for the death of 3 children, 3 innocent children who had their whole lives ahead of them was cut short…is insulting. What he did and the trauma that he caused the family warrants a life in prison. He should stay behind bars and rot in prison,” said Palm.

When news that he would be heading home initially broke, many slammed the justice system and said that women and children – both dead and alive – continue to be failed.

“The decision is a step in the right direction, as crimes against women and children should be taken seriously,” concluded Palm.
