Third suspect sought and arrested for human trafficking

Published on

A third suspect has been arrested on allegations of trafficking in persons. The Department of Home Affairs arrested the 41-year-old suspect on Thursday for being in the country illegally.

Success Egabor was later handed over to the Hawks due to additional allegations of trafficking in persons.

Previously, the Hawks had arrested two other suspects who were denied bail by the George Magistrates’ Court. Their case against the two, Nontobeko Mathunjwa (35) and Precious Abudu (34), was postponed to June 10, 2024, for further investigation.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in George had been intensively searching for the third suspect, reportedly residing in Cape Town.

On Thursday, a member of the Department of Home Affairs in Strand informed the Hawks about the arrest of a foreign national in the country illegally. Upon sharing the details, it was confirmed that the arrested individual was the sought suspect.

Egabor appeared at George Magistrates’ Court on Friday, and her case was postponed to June 10, 2024, to join her two co-accused.

“The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Makgato lauded the effective co-operation between the two departments and emphasized the importance of information sharing that led to this arrest which, in turn, makes the job easy.”
