Another South African talent is wowing the judges on Britain’s Got Talent and making us proud!

Rising local Opera star Innocent Masuku stunned the judges with his audition performance of Lucio Dalla’s Caruso this past weekend.

The talent competition, now in its 17th season, started airing on 20 April.

Judge Amanda Holden said Innocent was the best opera singer they have ever seen since the series began.

“Hands down, in the 17 years that we’ve been doing Britain’s Got Talent, you are by far the best opera singer we have ever had.”

Although he missed out on a Golden Buzzer, Innocent received a standing ovation and four yes votes from the judges to advance to the next round of the competition.

Walking off stage, Masuku said “I almost cried! I had to contain myself, like – you can’t be crying on television!”

The Minister of Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa congratulated Innocent on X for his riveting performance.

Masuku, hailing form Mpumalanga, started his singing career in Cape Town, making his professional debut as Crabman in a production of Porgy and Bess.

The 33 year old is currently part of the English National Opera, playing Count Almaviva in the Barber of Seville.

The video of his prime-time talent show debut has already amassed over a million views on YouTube.

A number of other South African acts have made it big on both Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent, including Ndlovu Youth Choir and Musa Motha.

Innocent is sure to rise to the top after this viral performance!
