Hundreds attend memorial service for slain Pelican Park autistic man

Close to 300 community members attended the memorial service of Kamryn Naidoo (23) on Thursday evening.

Many were the same individuals who roamed the streets of Pelican Park and Zeekoevlei to search for Naidoo when he was reported missing on Thursday 29 February. He was found stabbed to death with his hands tied with a black belt, about 24 hours after he was reported missing.

It’s believed the well-loved man was killed by someone known to him, as camera footage obtained from residents in the area showed Naidoo entering a bushy area with the suspect. Abdul Razak (27) was apprehended swiftly after the body of Naidoo was located, when a friend of the deceased discovered that he was attempting to sell the victim’s cellphone on the social media platform, Facebook.

Razak appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court

Naidoo’s family said scores of residents flocked to the first memorial service, held in the area on Thursday evening. A second memorial service is taking place at the Pelican Park Primary School from 18h00 – 20h00.

The late Naidoo will be laid to rest on Saturday 9 March at the Desire of All Nations Christian Church, in Ottery.

Residents have been urged to stand outside their homes between 07h00 and 08h00, as the hearse transporting his coffin will pass through the streets, which he frequented, for one final time.

His grieving sister, Jamie-Lee (22) called on those who loved her big brother to show their support once more.

“Thank you for all your words of encouragement, prayers and support during this time. Join us as Kamryn takes his last drive through Pelican Park on Saturday.”
