There’s been a call on minibus taxi operators to collect their amended operation licences. Officials at the Provincial Regulatory Entity have been working overtime this week, to assist taxi operators, who still need to collect their revised operating licence conditions.

The issue is in the spotlight as the ‘interim agreement’ of the Mini-Bus Taxi Task Team (MBTTT) comes to an end on the 29th of February 2024.

Meanwhile, Mobility MEC Ricardo Mackenzie says these amended operation licences should be picked up today.
“We are concerned that more than half of licences have not been collected,” MEC Mackenzie added.
He added, that there’s no cost involved.
Mini Bus Taxi Task Team
He added, that officials from the Provincial Regulatory Entity have been travelling across the Western Cape, since December last year.

This was to make sure that operators had all their documentation in order. While on the journey, they set up mobile offices in local venues and in minibus taxi ranks.
Minibus taxi operators and the PRE
The PRE last year in October, reviewed its generic and mode-specific operating licence conditions, in part of the ongoing work of the MBTTT to address challenges in the minibus taxi industry. Intensive stakeholder and industry consultation was needed to update the conditions. These were then published at the end of November.
Updated conditions
The updated conditions help to clarify the requirements for transporting passengers safely and legally in the province.
Mackenzie commented, “I also want to thank SANTACO-Western Cape for embracing the process and providing valuable input on behalf of its regions, associations, and members.”
