In a bid to improve its safety features, the e-hailing app Bolt has rolled out measures to increase the protection of both drivers and passengers. The latest features are Trip Monitoring and Driver Alerts.

According to the e-hailing company, the Driver Alerts feature equips drivers with valuable information about upcoming trips, ensuring they can make informed decisions, particularly in areas flagged for safety concerns.

Bolt’s Regional Manager for East and Southern Africa, Takura Malaba explains what Trip Monitoring is…

“With Trip Monitoring, Bolt introduces a proactive approach by engaging with passengers and drivers in-app when a vehicle remains stationary for an extended period. This feature not only confirms the well-being of everyone involved but also provides a quick and easy way to access emergency services or request assistance,” explains Malaba.

Furthermore, the e-hailing company plans to roll out even more trip safety monitoring features, including route deviation and delayed ride completion.

“Other existing safety tools available include free trauma counselling following any traumatic incident while using the platform through our partner Oaksure, Bolt Trip Protection, at no cost to cover emergency medical expenses, permanent disability, and death caused by an incident while on a Bolt trip, as well as trip sharing for real-time location sharing with friends and family,” concludes Malaba.
