As the 2023 tax season draws closer, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has warned of scammers who could try to get their hands on your personal details. Tax season opens on the 7th of July at 8pm.

SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter says people should be extra cautious at this time:

SCAM ALERT TAX SEASON

The deadline for non-provisional individual taxpayers is the 23rd of October, while provisional taxpayers have until the 24th of January to submit their returns.

“South Africans must be wary that when they are sent messages via Whatsapp or messaging that has a link for them to come back to, that is in fact the start of a scam going on to illicit personal information from you, either identity numbers, or bank account details,” adds Kieswetter.
