In over a decade, the UK had a fighting chance of winning Eurovision 2023. And the Princess of Wales made sure the evening’s grand final was a spectacular show – by participating in the show’s opening film.

Kate Middleton made a surprise cameo at the Eurovision Song Contest with a headline-grabbing display of support for Ukraine. She performed a short instrumental piece, filmed at a piano in the Crimson Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.

Princess Kate could be seen playing the piano dressed in a stunning one-shoulder cobalt evening gown, paired with dangling earrings. She complemented the flowing Jenny Packham dress with a relaxed curl hairstyle.

Middleton and her husband shared the performance on their official Instagram account.

Princess Kate joined Andrew Lloyd Webber, Joss Stone and other British musicians in a collaborated performance with Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra. They performed the orchestra’s winning entry at last year’s Eurovision, Stefania. Traditionally, the winning country hosts the following year’s Eurovision. However, this year’s contest was held in Liverpool given the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Middleton showed off her musical talent for the first time on Christmas Eve 2021. She accompanied Scottish singer, Tom Walker, in her first-ever public piano performance. A royal source says the Eurovision cameo was the Princess’ idea. The source added that Middleton found comfort in playing piano throughout the pandemic:

She also recognizes the powerful way in which music brings people together — especially during difficult times. For these reasons, she was keen to be part of Tom’s performance in this way

There was heat and plenty of glitter in the Eurovision 2023 Final. Sweden dominated the competition, with Loreen taking the crown, leaving the UK’s Mae Muller behind.

It is good to note that while she had the difficult task of performing last, Muller managed to impress crowds with her performance of “I Wrote A Song”.
