In this week’s Tech Talk Tuesday, Theunis Janse van Rensburg brought us some local, good news. And it is certainly an exciting announcement. A new mobile service provider has entered the national landscape with some pretty amazing deals to start off with!

Rain has been doing some incredible work for a while now. They provide homes with extensive 5G Wireless broadband internet solutions. They have now taken it a step further and gone into the mobile sector, ‘piggy-backing’ off Vodacom towers to create an extensive network across South Africa.

A new mobile competitor

But what makes this appealing to you and me? For one, all of a sudden there is a new competitor in the field. This is bound to go hand in hand with some pretty good deals. Not only from Rain, but I am sure from our other major service providers in the near future.

Another big point here – and I am sure you will agree – is that Rain is now combining home and phone into one plan, branded rainOne. Not only will you be able to secure unlimited wireless internet for your spot, but a plan for two mobile devices under one plan, at a very competitive price.

“Rain is now combining home and phone into one plan, branded rainOne,” it said in a statement. “Now customers can connect all their devices with one monthly bill.”

At the moment, it doesn’t look like they are offering actual cellular phone deals like other providers. This means you will have to either secure your own cellphone or use the one you currently have. With that being said, it seems pretty easy to keep your own number if you would like to jump ship.

For more on the tech side behind the network, what they had to do to acquire ‘network space’, how they are using Vodacom towers to bring about their own service, and what you can expect from the all-important ‘network coverage’, you can listen to my chat with Theunis Right HERE!
