It was a weekend for the sport fanatic. There was a bit of everything on show, which includes some high-stakes tennis, football, cricket, and rugby sevens. Here are some of the key moments from the weekend.
Novak Djokovic extends his winning run in Melbourne
The Serbian is back and in a type of form never before seen. Unforgiving is the only way to describe his performance at the Australian Open. Only one match in Djokovic’s campaign stretched to four sets. The rest of the matches, including the final, needed only three sets to determine the winner.
When he beat local man Alex De Minaur 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2 in the fourth round, Djokovic gave a spine-chilling answer when asked why he beat him so convincingly.

He is probably the most feared man in the world of sport.
Djokovic earned himself Aussie Open crown number 10, which took his Grand Slam tally up to 22, and he reclaimed his spot at the top of ATP’s rankings.
All that comes courtesy of a straight-sets win in the final over Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Proteas beat the world champions… twice
Going into the three-match ODI series against England, the job was clear – win the series, and take a massive step closer toward automatic qualification for the Cricket World Cup in India.
There are 13 teams in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. Of the 13, only the top eight will earn automatic qualification. The Proteas found themselves stuck in 11th place going into the series.
A 24-run win on Friday and a 5-wicket win on Sunday saw the Proteas leap into 9th place.
Only three ODI’s remain for the Proteas to earn points for the Super League. They have one more match against England, set to be decided on Wednesday, 1 February 2023, and two matches against the Netherlands at the end of March.
The Proteas will need to win at least two of the remaining matches to earn automatic qualification. If they keep on playing as they did over the weekend, it should be a cakewalk.

Blitzboks trip at the last hurdle
The Springbok sevens team is in a rebuilding phase, but they’ve shown glimpses of what they’re capable of. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of work laying ahead for the new coach, Sandile Ngcobo.
The Blitzboks could improve on a poor showing in the Hamilton event two weeks ago, to take Silver in Sydney this past weekend.
They got through the group stages unbeaten, won their pool, and put in convincing performances in the knockout stages. However, when it came time for the Final, New Zealand was merciless. They bullied the South Africans en route to a 38-0 win.

Brighton advanced to the 5th round of the FA Cup
The Fourth round of the FA Cup produced some magical moments in the weekend of sport. While there were some expected results, one or two clubs kept their campaign alive against all expectations.
The biggest shock came at the Amex Stadium in Brighton, where the hosts snatched a 2-1 victory over title holders, Liverpool, with a goal in added time.

Wrexham AFC nearly earned passage through to the fifth round in their encounter at the Racecourse ground against Championship side, Sheffield United. The Ryan Reynolds/Rob McElhenney-owned club enjoyed a 3-2 lead as the clock ticked past the 90-minute mark.
Sheffield managed to draw the scores level deep in added time, which will see the two play a fourth-round replay at Bramall Lane.
