SA20 outfit, MI Cape Town has made a couple of changes to its squad for the rest of the inaugural big-money T20 competition. The Franchise based in the mother city loses two England Internationals but gains two young cricketing talents, Henry Brookes and Tim David.

MI Cape Town lose two Stones

Olly Stone has said his goodbyes and will start building toward one of his greatest goals. That is to represent England in the coming Ashes series. In an article on Dailymail, Stone spoke about the heartbreak of not being able to represent his country in the historic series.

‘I try not to look too far ahead because I have thought of the future before and then you pick up an injury and you’re disappointed but an Ashes summer is exciting,’ said Stone.

‘I had a tiny experience of it back in 2019 when picked for one Test but it’s something I want to be a part of and also to go Down Under in a few years’ time and play one there. That’s what I’m aiming towards.

Stone has experienced some injury woes over the past couple of years, especially his back. It’s been nearly two years since the 29-year-old opted to have two screws inserted in his lower spine.

It was a “last resort” operation that seemed to have been a success, as Stone will feature in the English Test Squad set to face New Zealand in two tests at the back end of February.

The other English international to depart is Liam Livingstone.

The All-rounder has also had his fair share of injury woes – specifically to his ankle and knee – and has his sights set on being fit for the IPL. Livingstone injured his knee in December in England’s opening Test match against Pakistan. That saw his participation in the SA20 reduced to an advisory role.

MI  has acquired the services of the Australian, Tim David, in place of Livingstone for the remainder of the SA20.

David first made his international debut for Singapore in 2019, before Cricket Australia snatched the 26-year-old. Australia named David in their squad for the 2022 World Cup.

To replace Olly Stone, MI brought in Henry Brookes. The 23-year-old Brit boasts best figures of 5 for 25. He is also tipped to become is a future English International.

MI could miss out on SA20 playoffs

MI Cape Town has just three group-round matches remaining, and they sit outside of the top four, and the semi-final spots. They will have to fire at all cylinders to progress into the knockouts.
