LISTEN: The Country’s Top Matric on Smile Breakfast

Published on

The joint top Matric from the Class of 2022 Kelly Prowse joined Smile Breakfast with Bobby and Lindy on Monday morning, to talk about her brilliant results and her aspirations for the future.

Not only did Kelly score distinctions in all 9 her subjects (scoring over 90% in 8), but she also came out tops in the country for Mathematics, scoring 100%!

Prowse, from Rustenburg Girls’ High School, tied for first place in the National Senior Certificate 2022 results, with Husnaa Haffejee, a pupil from Al-Falaah College in Durban.

Prowse is looking to study Actuarial Science this year. She says she absolutely loves Maths!

“I find the whole concept of numbers quite intriguing… I think there are endless possibilities with it, and what excites me the most is how challenging it is…and I think there are so many sections of math that are still slightly mysterious, there are so many things that haven’t been answered…”

She says throughout her studies she tried to keep a balanced lifestyle, even finding time for socializing. She says finding time to do other things she enjoys like music definitely helped motivate her.

Prowse says she hasn’t quite decided where to pursue her studies, but it’s between UCT and Stellenbosch University. Both institutions would be lucky to have her!
