Four suspects will appear in Court this week after being arrested for the possession of copper cable.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi says three of the suspects were arrested in Elsies River on Friday after they tried fleeing from police, during an anti-crime operation at a scrap-metal dealer.

The suspects were arrested by the Economic Infrastructure Task Team.

The team was busy with compliance inspections and received information about the three individuals who wanted to sell copper cables.

They could also not account for an undisclosed amount of cash in their possession.

Swartbooi says a fourth suspect was arrested when police searched his vehicle and found him in possession of 21kg of copper cables.

The suspect claimed to be a subcontractor for the City of Cape Town but could not produce proof that it was handed to him by the authorized entity.

The four will make their respective court appearances in the Goodwood Magistrate court on charges of the Criminal Matters Amendment Act and possession of presumed stolen property.
