A local labor-law expert says even though implementing a 4-day workweek would be possible in South Africa, it would require changes to local legislation.
Senior Associate in Employment Law, at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, Asma Cachalia, says the arrangement would also be challenging to implement in sectors such as the mining industry as employees in specific sectors would not be able to stay away from work for three days a week.
Cachalia says this trend has already taken off in countries such as Spain, Belgium, and Japan.
